Luis has
set up 2 companies and has extensive experience in dealing
with early stage companies and private equity investing. In
2002 he set up IDFC Private Equity. He was earlier a Partner
at ChrysCapital. Prior to that, he spent 11 years in sales
and trading and was a key member of the start-up team at HDFC
Bank, India’s leading private sector bank. He has also
worked at HSBC Markets, Citibank, KPMG and PriceWaterhouse.
Luis is currently a Director of the Emerging Markets Private
Equity Association (EMPEA) and is on the Board of Governors
of the Centre for Fuel Studies and Research. He chairs the
Asia Cabinet of the Global Advisory Board of the Graduate
School of Business, University of Chicago. Luis has been involved
with many industry-related committees over the past 15 years.
Luis received an MBA from the University of Chicago (where
he won the Dean’s Award for Distinction and was actively
involved in creating the only mandatory course at the business
school) and an MCom from the University of Mumbai. He is a
member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India
(ICAI) and was a rank-holder at the ICAI examinations and
at the MCom Part I. Luis is married and has 2 kids. He likes
to unwind on the weekend, hanging out with his kids and teaching
Sunday School.
